Eldon Gideon - Medal of Excellence

The Medal of Excellence recognizes individuals and organizations who have played a pivotal role in advancing the College of Agriculture through outstanding service, leadership and philanthropy.

Eldon Gideon, born on October 7, 1935, grew up actively involved in farming and ranching in Topeka, Kansas. He deeply connects to his family’s legacy and the state’s agricultural heritage. From a young age, Eldon was passionate about agriculture, actively participating in 4-H and FFA programs. He later became a student at K-State, where he continued his agricultural education.

The Gideon family has long been committed to championing youth involvement in agriculture education, offering mentorship and resources to help the next generation of agriculture enthusiasts succeed. For more than 75 years, Eldon has made invaluable contributions as a livestock producer, educator and community leader.

As a leader in agricultural associations like the Kansas Livestock Association and the American Hereford Association, he promoted livestock breeding and farming practices that elevated the agriculture industry.

Eldon’s legacy goes beyond his personal successes; it reflects his longtime commitment to improving agriculture education, supporting future generations and advancing Kansas's agricultural heritage. His involvement in local 4-H clubs, leadership roles in agricultural associations, and service to his community have helped countless young people find their path in the industry that he holds close to his heart.
