Teaching at Rannells Ranch

“Rannells provides a unique space for learning experiences that offer students opportunities they may not have access to elsewhere.” -Sophie Westbrook
Pastures That Teach, Futures That Thrive
Rannells Ranch provides students with direct access to applied learning in grazing management, rangeland ecology, and working lands decision-making. Through classes, demonstrations, and hands-on research, the ranch serves as a teaching resource for the communities served by Kansas State University.
Field-Based Learning
Students gain experience by engaging directly with the land, livestock, and research. Hands-on work helps students understand how grazing decisions are made and how ecological responses are monitored. These activities create a deeper connection between classroom learning and real-world rangeland management.
Workshops and Demonstrations
The ranch offers demonstrations, workshops, and events where students and community members can learn side by side. These opportunities allow ideas to be shared and connect students with local producers and real-world experiences.
Current Projects
Teaching at Rannells Ranch is built into coursework across agronomy, animal science, and natural resources. Classes use the ranch to connect lectures with real examples of grazing management and rangeland systems, helping students see how concepts apply on working land.
