During the summer of 2025, Meredith Kasuba has an internship with Corbion in Lenexa, KS.
What are your responsibilities at your internship?
I’m a sales technical intern. Every week, I travel to a different bakery facility across the country. My responsibilities vary from week to week, depending on what the bakery needs my help with.
I’ve traveled to California to assist in a grocery store grand re-opening and worked on artisan-style breads. I traveled to Arizona to run thermal profiles on large industrial baking ovens. In Michigan, I worked on hamburger bun lines.
What’s one of your favorite things about your internship?
The variety of tasks and experiences are incredible. Aside from traveling to different facilities, I’ve gotten to teach Baking 101 classes and talk to very different people each week who are all experts in baked goods, like loaf breads, cakes, buns and pastries. I’ve asked them questions about their techniques and methods, and it’s helped me build my network.
How will your internship impact your future career?
I’ve loved working this internship, and its impact will be practical and profound. I’ve learned how industrial bakeries operate, the real-world issues they experience and developed new problem-solving methodologies because of it. It’s also improved my communication skills in two ways; it helped me overcome shyness as I talked to a diverse range of people, and I gained valuable digital communication skills.
What advice do you have for those looking to get an internship next summer?
I recommend attending the career fair, any business dinners the College of Ag provides, and club meetings that company recruiters host, and signing up for anything that sounds interesting. You may be surprised at the opportunities offered. A lot of companies understand that college students are just starting out, so the one characteristic they are truly looking for is willingness to learn. I also recommend preparing for any interviews by thoroughly researching the company, learning their slogan and memorizing your own resume.
