K-State College of Ag is proud to recognize alumni from all departments who continue to pursue their passion in their respective fields. It is through experience that we continue to grow as individuals and stewards of the industry. Through those experiences, we hope to be a continued resource for the next generation of K-State students to lean on for advice and continue to build our network!
Why did you choose to come to K-State?
I chose to come to K-State because the opportunity to study at a land grant university was important for both me and my wife. Before visiting K-State, a professor from the university where I obtained my master's put me in contact with some of their references at the university. Good quality professors, faculty, and staff were the main reasons we chose to attend K-State, and both received our masters here. We also wanted to be surrounded by a community that felt like home and where agriculture could surround us.
What sets the college and your program apart from others?
Working with professors and other students in the field gave me an incredible opportunity to problem-solve and push myself. The university environment also helped me move forward; working with individuals from different countries and cultures helped us achieve our goals. I was missing an environment that pushed me outside my comfort zone, and this is part of the reason I succeeded the way I did.
What advice would you give students who want to maximize their time in college academically and socially?
Take advantage of all the resources and opportunities available to you. When my wife and I moved to Manhattan, we knew no one and didn't have a community, but we found one. There are so many wonderful opportunities, and with all the renovations and the promise of better research facilities, there are plenty of chances to get involved and improve yourself. I had the chance to get involved with other graduate students in the agronomy program and get to know them and the work they were doing, and it pushed me to improve and help innovate with my research.
What advice do you have for students or prospective students?
If you have the chance to get into the university, use all the resources you have as much as you can. The opportunities that you have in this environment and in particular the agronomy area. You have economic resources, like Plenty View, and you have facilities that are renovated. They have better facilities to do research, to get comfortable, to learn and to do amazing work. The professors, but also the technicians and people working in the university are willing to help you, and the opportunities that you have to get in contact with amazing people from farmers to researchers. If you are interested in improving yourself, learning and going forward, you have all the opportunities there. It is dependent on you.
