Workforce Development

Workforce developmentThe lack of a skilled workforce is a major constraint for growth and expansion of agriculture and the state’s economic development. The college partners with the Kansas Department of Agriculture and the Kansas Department of Commerce to help ensure a pipeline of qualified individuals to meet the specific needs of employers and provide opportunities for people to have the skills required to get good-paying jobs and navigate technological disruptions and the rapidly changing needs of agribusiness and industry.

This interdisciplinary research unit works to better understand workforce needs among the state’s agricultural employers. The unit also collaborates with community colleges and technical schools to identify the programs and strategies needed to reach and recruit students and provide the education, training and job coaching required for people just entering the job market and those wanting to move up or transition to another career.

The research in this area cuts across all college departments and K-State Research and Extension, but is supported mainly by the Department of Agricultural Economics.
