Student Research Opportunities
Research is what drives the advancement of agriculture and ag-related fields. At K-State our undergraduate and graduate students are fully engaged with faculty to conduct nearly every form of basic and applied research. Our students are encouraged and provided opportunities to be the creative and dedicated problem solvers to address the needs of producers, ag-business and industry.
Undergraduate research offers students the chance to engage in team-based, interdisciplinary research projects. Working hand-in-hand with faculty and staff mentors, these experiences give students the opportunity to strengthen their creative thinking and problem-solving skills; learn to present their ideas and accomplishments; grow their network of faculty, professionals or potential employers; and gain experience working with diverse teams. Classes focused on undergraduate research are offered by most majors in the College of Agriculture. If a student wishes to join a research team, they should speak with their adviser.
At the University level, students may participate in research through the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry. Students participating in Creative Inquiry present their work at K-State's annual poster symposium; and have the chance to be published in Crossing Borders: A Multidisciplinary Journal of Undergraduate Scholarship. Their research efforts could be cited in professional publications and presented at professional society conferences. Learn more about these opportunities.
Graduate students are essential in animal, plant and grain sciences; food safety and nutrition; and horticulture and wildlife management research conducted within the college and K-State Research and Extension.
Through this research, students receive real-world experience and funding through the College of Agriculture's 18 graduate programs. Most graduate programs offer both master's and doctoral degrees; agribusiness and agricultural education and communication are master's only-programs.
Whatever the research topic or wherever their explorations take them, the work of our College of Agriculture graduate students is designed to improve the lives and livelihoods of people living in Kansas, our nation and world.
After reviewing the program(s) of interest and if you have any questions, contact the appropriate College of Agriculture department’s graduate degree program chair/director of graduate programs. If you are ready to apply to our graduate school, go to the K-State Graduate School website to review the admission procedures and entrance requirements. Once you have all of the information you need and have made the decision to apply to K-State, go to our online application website to apply.
