Global Experience in Agriculture
From the High Plains to global food systems, agriculture connects people, innovation, natural resources and the shared challenge of feeding a growing world. At K-State, students gain hands-on global experiences that expand their perspective, strengthen their leadership skills and prepare them to lead in a globally connected agricultural industry.
International Student Experience
Agriculture today operates across global supply chains, environmental systems, markets and communities. From water management and food security to agricultural technology, sustainability and trade, the future of agriculture depends on leaders who can think beyond borders while remaining grounded in practical problem-solving and stewardship.
K-State College of Agriculture students gain hands-on experience in agricultural systems around the world through faculty-led programs, semester exchanges, internships and experiential learning opportunities that develop professional skills, expand cultural understanding and prepare future leaders.
As a land-grant institution rooted in serving Kansas agriculture and rural communities, K-State believes global learning strengthens the next generation of agricultural leaders and innovators.
Explore Opportunities
Each year, departments within the College of Agriculture sponsor group study tours to continue around the globe. Agriculture students also participate in other trips sponsored by other colleges and universities.
Summer study programs are a popular way for K-State College of Agriculture students to gain international experience. The College of Agriculture has a student exchange agreement with ESA Purpan, in Toulouse, France. College of Agriculture students have also completed recent summer study programs coordinated by the Office of International Programs in the Czech Republic, Honduras, Mexico and Costa Rica. Recent international internships have included students in Scotland, Guatemala, New Zealand, Mexico, Sweden, Russia and Paraguay.
The semester abroad programs offer K-State College of Agriculture students the best opportunity to fully experience and understand the culture of their host country. The College of Agriculture currently has 20 international collaborative agreements with universities in other countries. Recent semester abroad programs have taken our students to Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, and Ireland. To encourage and help offset the cost of international experiences, the K-State College of Agriculture offers several competitive travel scholarships for students studying abroad. Students participating in summer study programs, semester-long programs, or academic year-long programs are eligible to apply.
Students participating in faculty-led international trips do not need to apply separately, as financial support is automatically applied to their international experience.
To be considered for these scholarships, students must complete the International Agriculture Fund Scholarship Application at least two months prior to their planned departure.
Upcoming Trips
Spend your summer in Italy with other K-State students & faculty! The
Kansas State University in Italy programs are located in the Italian hill
town of Orvieto, in Umbria, Italy. The KSU in Italy - Agriculture program is
open to all students who meet the program prerequisites. Program
highlights include a wine tasting, cooking class, & interacting daily with
locals! Additionally, participants will enjoy several day trips to Assisi,
Rome, and farms in the Umbria region.

Spend part of your summer in Australia! This program provides students with
an immersive exploration of Australian agriculture, animal science, and
agribusiness through hands-on learning, industry visits, cultural experiences,
and interaction with agricultural professionals and students. Traveling across
New South Wales and Queensland, students will examine diverse agricultural
production systems and gain firsthand insight into how livestock, crop, food,
and natural resource industries operate within Australia.

Spend part of your summer in Peru with other K-State students & faculty!
This program explores the relationships among people, agriculture, culture,
and the environment. Through visits to farms, Indigenous communities, cultural
sites, markets, and natural landscapes, students will examine how Peru’s
geography, history and cultural traditions influence food production, plant
use, livelihoods, and daily life. Program highlights include guest lectures from
experts in the agriculture industry, touring Machu Picchu, and completing a
service-learning project with local tea, coffee, and cacao growers.

Other Trips
Spend your spring break in Northern Greece, learning about traditional,
local, and innovative approaches that are shaping Greek agriculture!
Examples include precision agriculture technologies, organic and
regenerative crop production, olive cultivation and oil production, vineyards
and wineries, beekeeping and honey production, etc. Throughout the
course, students will see how geography, climate, history, culture, and
economics shape agricultural production around the world!

Spend your spring break in London, Manchester & Edinburgh,
examining UK grain processing and meeting with industry professionals! Visit
processing facilities such as GR Wright and Sons Flour Mills, Fullers Brewing,
Port of Leith Distillery, ADM Milling and Johnnie Walker Distillery. Participants
on this program will have the opportunity to meet with UK Flour Millers, the
trade organization for all the flour mills in the UK, engage with Buhler UK, and
do optical sorting training with Satake Europe in Manchester.

Spend your spring break in Spain! This program provides students with an
immersive experience in Spanish food systems, animal agriculture, meat
processing, dairy production, culinary traditions, and regional culture. Through
industry visits, cultural activities, and experiential learning opportunities in
Barcelona and Girona, students will compare European and United States food
production systems while developing a broader understanding of global
agriculture, sustainability, and consumer food preferences.
