Stitching It All Together
By Maleah WalkerFrom The Agriculturist
Lola Plum carries double majors in animal science and biology with a business minor, putting her on a pre-professional pathway to becoming a human heart surgeon. Rather than in a pasture working with animals directly, Plum says animal science provides a lab setting with more applied science class opportunities than a traditional pre-med major.
She said many majors fulfill the prerequisites for medical school, so she chose animal science because it was something she was interested in.
“Going away to college, I was going out of state and I knew nobody,” Plum says. “The College of Agriculture is a tight-knit community. I found my people and it just felt like home.”
In high school, Plum flew into Kansas City and had to buy a jacket for her K-State visit in mid-February. Plum says touring K-State’s College of Agriculture prompted her to choose K-State over Cornell University or the University of California, Davis. The College of Agriculture Ambassadors and college personnel made such a positive impression on Plum that she knew K-State had something to offer no other college could.
